I'M 27!

Struck by the sudden urge to write something non-academic.
The last six months have been a whirlwind of what felt like non-stop work (ironically accompanied by too much procrastination).
Many many things have happened in the last year, and what a better time to reflect than post birthday.

Getting married
Best thing ever for my relationship with Brendan. Instead on focusing on whether this relationship was going to last, I felt free to focus on how I could love Brendan more. I don't always do a good job, but I know that I love him more now. Although I was resistant towards the advice to get married younger/soon, but 1.5 years into marriage, I think I would recommend it ( though I'm hardly the expert).

Going to Europe
I love Italy. Bring me back please! Highlight was definitely Cinque Terre, segwaying in Rome and the Vatican Tour in Rome. Venice was so gorgeous too.....!!

Leading growth group with Brendan
Co-leading growth group last year with my husband was so much fun and challenging at the same time. I loved going through Romans, having socials and serving together as a group. This year, is slightly different but it has been an absolute joy seeing people commit to church and growth group and more importantly commit to Jesus. We're going through Romans again and I look forward to being stretched in my understanding of God's glory.

Final stages of PhD
The first three months of 2013 was an absolute nightmare. I don't think I did a whole lot of work, but it felt like I was under pressure the entire time. It was ...terrible...and I felt like such a failure. Thank God for a very patient and loving husband and for the reminder that God was sovereign.

Starting new work
The biggest thing that happened this year was definitely starting new work. The best thing about starting work is definitely the type of research I get to be part of. Intervention research! Finally, I'm looking for solutions to problems, rather than focusing on describing a known problem. The team that I get to work with is fantastic and really vibrant. Being able to work with my boss is definitely the cherry on top of the cake. I have the utmost respect for his capacity to problem solve, his respect for other people and his willingness to listen.  Even in the short time that I've been there, I've learned so much.
I do feel pressured to 'prove my worth' (no expectations from work, but more from my self) and doubt my capacity to contribute significantly.
Sometimes it feels like I have inadequate skills/intelligence for the job.
But, gotta keep going hey.

Am starting to run out of steam, but I think this has been good for my soul. I miss you bloggie.
