Grrrrr...

why is it so hard to do??

but then again it's not surprising, even Paul says in Romans that it's hard to do.
But still..

No excuses right?

Good Friday is not about me.
It's about You.

Was browsing around You Tube and came across Anna Nalick.

"Praise You In This Storm"

I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen", and it's still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

And I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
And every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to you
And you raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can't find You

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

Women.

It doesn't matter how brilliant we think we are.

We're fools when it comes to love.

Ever wonder why we make it difficult for you ( assuming you're a guy)?

Because we need to know that you're worth it.
Because we need to know that you'll never stop fighting for us.
Because we need to know that we'll never, one day, not be good enough for you.
Because we need to know that you'll protect our heart like it's yours.

Because we're are delicate, emotional beings that submit.

And once we know.
Once we're sure.

We'll never give up, never let go.

Not untill you stop fighting for us.
Not untill you stop protecting our hearts.

Women - we're just stupid.
Why can't it all be about sex and looks?

Of late , I've been so much of a scatter brain.
Behind in everything.
Breaking my glasses AGAIN.
Falling down and getting a humongous bruise.
Losing my keys.

What's wrong?

Sighs.

WOE TO ME.
self pity, not an attractive trait.

Btw, doesn't Jun Shi look so cute in the video. =)
Haha.

And we'd make a very successful girl band I reckon.

The best way to take away naturalness from someone is to point a camera at them.
This was taken when we were pretty much unaware.

The best way to make someone uneasy is to scrutinise them.

Unwanted attention makes people self conscious.

All besides the point.

Between now and Friday, I have a million things to do.

Time management.
I need to learn it.
HELP.

Sunday, March 9, 2008

Simple words of wisdom.

You chose it.
Do it.
Do it well.
Do it happily.

So true so true. =)

Truly encouraging

Friday, March 7, 2008

I want to say so many things......

But...today I discovered...

That is isn't hard to be opinionated.

The hard part is keeping those opinions to myself when it isn't necessary for those opinions to be shared.

Everyone wants to be heard.

We need more people who are willing to shut up.
I've always been more of a listener.
Society labels listeners as anti social, quiet, not outgoing, no opinions, soft, nothing to say.

But you know what?

In the end we're all just different

RANDOM

When I start thinking, my brain goes into overload. Distracted, nail biting, restless ( or maybe just a reason for pure procrastination)

When I stop moving, when I stop expecting, when I stop wanting, and craving,

The emptiness screams,

there's no way this world is enough for me.

Craving for something different.

Or maybe I want more of the same things.
To go skin deep.

To live life the way it's meant to be lived.

REASONS TO SMILE

I do this every year.
I list out things that made me smile.

2006
2007

*click click*

Because I generally forget that I have been blessed with so many things.
And picture posts are always fun.
And also I like lists.

So here goes, reasons to smile 2008

1. Him

Little elliot I mean. =)

back in the days

2. FOCUS

we're actually a lively bunch, I kid you not.

3. Them

Only picture I have with Alice in my com. =p

4. Family

my beautiful family

5. Random happy moments
movies
nice meals
smiles
encouragement
girl's bible study
gifts which I'm yet to take pics of

Too lazy to look for more pictures now.
Picture posts are actually more time-consuming than written post.
Good excuse for procrastination.

The Malaysian general elections are coming up.

For the first time in my 21 years, I'm actually paying attention to what's happening in my country.
My first memory of elections was back in Tawau, where I saw blue flags with white scales hanging from every electric pole in the city.
I remember at 12 or 13, how I idolised Dr Mahathir and how he was the 'good guy'. In contrast, the main opposition team leader in Sabah at that time was an 'evil' villian trying to buy over votes by giving the bumiputera land.
I remember seeing that same opposition leader shaking hands with people in the market and I refused to go over to shake his hand because to me he was 'evil'.

I'm the first to say that I don't know anything about Malaysian politics.

I get my news from the Malaysian papers. And we know how reliable the Malaysian papers are especially during the elections.

I know that the opposition can hardly expect to get any airtime on our local papers so they have to resort to other options to get information out.

I know that these local paper said that nearly all 2004 promises were carried out.
I remember how the prime minister ran for the 2004 elections with promises of reducing corruption.

How about claims that postal votes are being manipulated?
And the BERSIH rally for electoral reforms.( And how the rally was brushed aside and misreported by local media).

How about what our BN representatives have said?

" If you cannot fight rape, better lay down and enjoy it."
" Malaysia is an Islamic state. If you don't like it, get out of Malaysia.

We have so much more to worry about than sex scandals and have ministers.

We are allowing our own leaders to DEGRADE us.

Our current deputy prime minister
" Revoke the citzenship of those who oppose the Malay leaders.May 13 has begun and soak it ( the keris) with Malaysian Chinese blood."

UMNO is unsinkable.

Undilah Barisan National.

Orang Malaysia untuk Malaysia. ( Malaysians for Malaysia)

Tetapi adakah Malaysia untuk orang Malaysia? (But is Malaysia for Malaysians?)

EVERYTHING

Song lyrics | Everything lyrics

Jun Shi kinda got me stuck on this song.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, You make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.

Guaranteed to make every girl swoon.
Especially when it's Buble. <3

3 posts in one day.
Want to say I busy also no one will believe.
Home sweet home.

Malaysian bloggers warned being monitored: report

Quoting the article

"Media watchdog Reporters Without Borders ranks Malaysia 124 out of 169 on its worldwide press freedom index, and says the main media are "often compelled to ignore or to play down the many events organised by the opposition".

The government has previously threatened that bloggers could be punished under draconian internal security laws which provide for detention without trial."

If the government did what it was supposed to do, they wouldn't have time to worry about bloggers.

Malaysia, my home, my country.

CHRISTIAN REMINDER

Greg's talk last night from 1 John was really helpful.

He spoke about what really makes a christian 'Christian'.

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

And also

And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

The idea that Christ died for the WHOLE world's sins but not everyone will have Him as an advocate was new to me.

All objective facts.
So regardless of how I feel, of how 'unchristian' I feel I am, the objective facts is that Christ died for my sins and He is now deflecting God's wrath for me.

But how do we know that we are in Christ?

Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

No new commandment but a new way of fulfilling the old testament law.

Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.

I write to you, little children,
Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.

I write to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young men,
Because you have overcome the wicked one.

I write to you, little children,
Because you have known the Father.

1 John 2: 1-14 ( All in italics are the verses)

A challenge to keep reevaluating the way we live life.
A challenge to keep in mind the objective facts.
A challenge to obey the old commandment but in a new light.
A challenge to keep going, not dragging feet way but strong and certain way.

All challenges.

That are worth it.

RANDOM

Emotions up down everywhere.

Finally settling back down.
It's good to enjoy N& D all over again.
It's good to not be easily annoyed by anything and everything.
It's good to be settling back in.
Fitting back into the whole routine of Newcastle life again.

It's just about changing perspectives.

i want to be more like you.

i want to sit and think about NOTHING.
i want to just learn to care without worrying about returns or about opportunity cost ( the only economic term that i remember from econs).
i want to be kinder and more open about my flaws.
i want to be less arrogant and less judgmental.
i want to be truthful.
i want to keep my promises.

it's funny how opposites attract but yet it's the similarities beneath that connect.

alike but yet different.

God, I think it makes sense to think that you have a huge sense of humour.

I think it makes sense to not question things that are NOT important because You are in charge.

I think it all makes sense.

I'm indeed blessed to be here at such a time like this.

Sweeney Todd

Saw this poster against discrimination in the uni and I like the quote.

'Don't judge what I can do based on what you think I can't.

A bit of lyrics from Sweeney Todd - A little priest

TODD:
For what's the sound of the world out there?

LOVETT:
What, Mr. Todd?
What, Mr. Todd?
What is that sound?

TODD:
Those crunching noises pervading the air!

LOVETT:
Yes, Mr. Todd!
Yes, Mr. Todd!
Yes, all around!

TODD:
It's
man devouring man, my dear!
BOTH:
And [LOVETT: Then] who are we to deny it in here?

TODD: (spoken) These are desperate times,
Mrs. Lovett, and desperate measures are called for!

So true.

It's men devouring men.

You know what.

The world doesn't need anymore pessimistic, emo, unmotivated people.
So I give up being one.

The world needs happy shiny people ( quoting grey's anatomy)

So I'll be a happy shiny person.
I refuse to be caught up in the rat rice this year ( get the rat pun)

Jump off little man.

Screw the whole new year's resolution thingie.

I just want to be a happy shiny person.

I give up on being thin.
I give up on being an absolutely impressive fantastic awesome person.
I give up on being the best student in the world.
I give up on trying so hard.

Maybe then I'll learn to live hey.

2008 , 2 months almost done.
Come on, i'm wasting time.
only 21.....years ahead to be living if I'm lucky.
If I'm not...oh well..

I can't be bothered with perfection anymore.

Cos I just can't.

Alice Tham, if you're reading this, please call me back anytime you want.
I'll even get up at 3am for you.=p

SAY NO TO BEING SIBUK

I think that's a good philosophy actually.

mind your own business.

but so difficult to put into practice.

to not 'sibuk'.

I TAK NAK SIBUK.

wonder where to draw the line with the teasing.
maybe it's a bit too much.
guess I was much more kinder with my words a few years back.
more 'politically correct'.

hmm...or maybe just kinder...

now I just can't be bothered to be kind.
I've heard people say if what you say is not useful or kind then DON'T SAY IT.

Better to be a quiet wise man than a noisy fool.

Or maybe it's just kinder that way.

Hmmmm...

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

You know you like someone when

- you think of him an awful lot.
- you smile when he sends you a sms or an email.
- you memorise his phone no
- you can't wait to see him.
- you remember important dates ( ie : anniversary, birthday)
- you put his pic on your desk.
- you think of small, little things you can do for him all the time.

You know you're in love when

- you don't take the easy way out of an argument.
- you care about what his parents think about you
- you care about what your family thinks about him
- you think of ways to be more understanding.

- the thought of not having till death do us part scares you.

And it's not even because you fear being without,
it's because you fear being without HIM.

That's when you know you're in love.

Happy Valentine's Day!

RANTS

This few days have been a whirlwind of emotions- mainly unpleasant ones.
I keep telling myself that I have no reason to be cranky.
And yet I still find myself getting irritated by every single thing.

I just seem like an ungrateful brat.
So many things I want to do this year and yet I'm still moving in low gear.
I should ace this prostate cancer lit review and yet I'm unmotivated to do it.

Surinder said I'm expecting a lot out of you because I think you're very bright.
Well, I think she was disappointed with my lousy lit review on the vegetarian women.
I don't feel bright at all.

I wanted to serve in church but I missed church last Sunday because I was too tired and didn't feel well.
What's wrong with me?
Where's the motivation?

To ace placements to do well to not be bothered by unnecessary stuff to be less self absorbed to be kinder to love him more to excel to make my mom proud to graduate to have an awesome 2008.

this is stupid

I'VE NEVER BEEN MORE HOMESICK THAN NOW

I want to go home.

Chinese New Year in Newcastle is like no chinese new year at all.

No family reunion dinner with steamed fish and chicken.
No annoying CNY music albums released by young little kids and old old singers.
No CNY decorations.
No red packets filled with money.
No pineapple tarts, kuih kapit and ba gua.

Stupid cooking for one or two course that I may not get to do.

Stupid Newcastle.
Stupid everything.

Quoting mercy me , I've never been more homesick than now.

Btw, happy Chinese New Year.

RANDOM

Back to journal reading and nutrition issues.
Well at least I have the flexibility to do work at home in my pyjamas whilst blasting music with the stereos Brendan gave me.

Was just browsing through some journal titles and I wonder if some of them even warrant publication.

"The inverse relationship between physical activity and waist circumference".
Erm...isn't it obvious?

Chinese New Year's coming soon.
It's been a while since I celebrated CNY at home.

Been getting easily annoyed these few days.
I don't know why. =(

I must be patient ! I must be patient !

Been watching this much talked about Cantonese drama series called Heart of Greed.
Maybe that's the reason why I'm getting easily annoyed.
I am getting really frustrated with all the characters in the show.
Are there really people as horrid as this in the world or are they all merely contained in the world of HK movie series?
As I'm typing this out, the stupid uncle is once again causing all kinds of problems again.
Oh and the whole Edison Chen and Gillian Chung sex scandal.
I wonder if it's real.

Did Paris Hilton start a whole new trend with sex videos?
And Malaysia was one of the first to pick up on all this with the health minister scandal.
Btw, we can vote for KL to be one of the 20 cities on the World Edition monopoly board. ( Msia's at no. 51)
Go vote go vote.

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Spent the last 2-3 days catching up on grey's anatomy season 4.
I'm actually starting to get a bit tired of all the drama.
That's just too much drama for one girl to carry.

Love and sex aside, another recurring theme( aiseh, this is what english class in AUSMAT thought me) is the strange and twisted friendship that Meredith and Christina seem to have.
They always have each others' backs, they give each other the license to sin, they manipulate and make use each other ( Christina does this) and yet they form this exclusive relationship in which they term friendship.
Friendship is a strange strange thing.
It can be so hard and yet so easy with the right people.
Maybe most good friends have the Christina-Meredith friendship. It's just that they're not so upfront above it.

In one episode, Izzie says to Christina, ' why is it only okay when Meredith does it?
And to that I think the answer would be because she is Meredith.

Is true friendship giving the person the liberty to do whatever they want or just trying your hardest to stop the person from making what would seem like the biggest mistake ever?

I guess it's a bit of both.
Trying to stop the person but yet still stepping back and allowing the person to do whatever he or she decides.
And yet, still coming back in when the person has been hurt by that wrong decision.
And not saying I told you so ( okay maybe saying it once or twice but not too many times).

Because we, as human beings never know when that wrong decision could turn out right for that person.

True friendship is tough.
Sad that boy-girl relationship has always been overglamourised compared to good ol' friendship.
Just an extremely late night post inspired by contentment.

I'm contented.

In being me.
No, I don't think it's overconfidence because I see the flaws in me so well.

I just like being in my own skin. Haven't felt this comfortable since a pretty long time ago.

And it feels fantastically, radically awesome.
I hope it stays that way. For forever?

I'm contented because God loves me. Simple truth which took me what seemed like an eternity to discover.

What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was tryin’ to do

Rascal Flatts

This is the saddest chorus ever.
Replaces Shannon Noll's Lonely in my books as the saddest break up song.

I know I'm a bit outdated when it comes to music.
What to do, graduated to mix fm.

I don't know why I'm up at 2.20am doing this.

Probably because I'm going back to good ol' Newcastle soon.
I always lose sleep when I'm about to face a change of condition.

Coming back home, the most popular question I'm asked these days is will you be coming back to Malaysia after you graduate.

I honestly don't know.
I don't plan on coming back to Malaysia anytime soon but I would like to think that Malaysia is still home.

Honestly, dealing with Malaysians and their nutritional status is frustrating.

It's not just about different foods and languages.
It's not even about the different beliefs of the different races ( ie : the chinese believe that food is divided into heaty foods and cold foods). I wonder how evidence based practice applies here.

It's about their attitudes towards food and nutrition.

They want quick fixes.
The mentality here is supplements and quick weight loss diets.
Malaysians (especially the young girls) are a skinny bunch but I don't think they're very healthy at all.
The BMI is definitely not useful as a health risk factor here.

Whatever happened to I want a healthy body.

I should just sell my soul and come up with an instant weight loss programme.
That way I'd be rich and not have to work. =p

Ah well.... thin does not equal beautiful.
That's something I struggle to believe in too.
Believe it, cos it's true.

WHY A PUNK IN PINK?

Why a punk in pink?

Because I like pink.
Pink is girly, it's sweet, it's feminine, it's pretty.
And also, pink is always associated with females.
Pink is the stereotypical female colour.

pink
So whilst pink is the stereotype,

A punk is dark, a punk goes against rules, a punk is not accepted by the society.
A punk is anti establishment, a rebel.

So I guess the whole idea of being a punk in pink.
is about being different even while being stereotypically the same.

It's a subtle form of rebellion against norms.
It's like this pink skull.

I'm typing this out semi-blind, without my contact lenses ( and we all know I'm blind without it).
Even more than that is I have my left eye taped shut with a cotton wool over it because my mother ( the former eye nurse) told me that my hurt cornea will recover overnight if I do this.
I guess 2008 is really here.

Excuse my slowness in picking it up but 2008 is really here.
I'm really going to be 22 this year. No more in between , I'm officially an ADULT.

New year resolutions

Plenty.

Lose a bit of weight
Write and read more.
Start a prayer journal.
Keep it simple.
Save more money.
Keep in touch with friends that matter/
Stop being miss grouchy.

2008 + PERFECT WEDDING

Attended a beautiful wedding dinner yesterday.
It had everything that a fairytale wedding needed to have. From the gorgeous decoration pieces and flowers to the five-tiered wedding cake on the stage.
The selection of music was perfect, could have been my music list playing. ( yes, I'm a fan of soppy love songs).
The bride was simply breathtaking- elegant, beautiful and graceful.
The groom- strapping, tall, good looking young man.
They looked perfect together.
The speeches they gave were goose-bump worthy and made everyone go 'awwwww'.
Every detail was perfectly planned, a classy and elegant ( but very expensive I'm sure) event.

It's at a perfect wedding like this where I mentally start planning my own wedding. ( Am I scaring a certain person? =p)

What's a must for a perfect wedding?
The perfect wedding gown.
The perfect shoes.
The live band.
The flowers.
I love the idea of a dance floor where the bride and groom take the first dance.

But most important of all - the groom

After the glitzy event where we get to pretend we are princesses, we hang up our gown(s?) and turn to face the man that we're supposed to spend the rest of our lives with.

Sigh.

I so wanna get married.

Okay, so maybe I can't get married now.=(

Is it to early to start writing my wedding vows?
Don't get me started on wedding vows. They're not just something random, they're promises for eternity, for richer or poorer, for better or for worse, through sick and through health till death do us part.
Sigh.

*Slaps self*

Happy 2008 =)
